Hemp Plant as Potential Energy Storage

Batteries and Stored Energy

Batteries store energy and help people in a lot of levels, and so more and more research is being done on how to store energy to attain the maximum benefits of batteries.

The website The Mind Unleashed for instance shared a new study n hem being a potential powerful energy storage. “As hemp makes a comeback in the U.S. after a decades-long ban on its cultivation, scientists are reporting that fibers from the plant can pack as much energy and power as graphene, long-touted as the model material for supercapacitors.”

Unconventional Use

An unconventional use of car battery was meantime shared by website Speed Society. It featured the use of a jumper cable and car batteries as a do-it-yourself emergency welding equipment when you find yourself needing to do a welding job while at a remote location.

“When it comes to welding, a decent amount of equipment is necessary to get the job done. Unfortunately, if you find yourself out on the trails, that equipment isn’t the easiest in the world to haul around. Instead of bringing a big, clunky welder with you everywhere you go, there’s another option that could manage to get you out of a bind in a hurry using only what you have on hand!”

Parents have to be wary about these batteries because according to the pediatrician in the report, those who have survived, still suffered life-changing injuries.

Repurposing Chest Freezers

Converting a Chest Freezer into an Energy Efficient Refrigerator

Chest Freezers are now the new efficient refrigerators – at least according to those preparing for a life off the grid.

In the Website New Life on A Homestead detailed how they converted a chest freezer into an energy efficient refrigerator that will not eat up the solar energy that they are allotting for daily use.

“In the months before purchasing our solar kit, we took measurements of how much power each of our appliances pulls using a Kill-a-Watt-Meter. After plugging our fridge into the meter for several days, we were able to determine that our upright unit was pulling about 2.25 kWh/day. With a solar system that will only produce 4-6 kW/day (assuming sunny days and clear skies), we had to find a way to reduce the load our fridge required.”

Read the step-by-step instructions on how to convert your chest freezer into a ref here.

Next Step: Organize

If you wish to try this out then you will definitely need to hone your organizing skills. Thekitchn.com shared in its website a great way of organizing your chest freezer.

“Containerizing, that favored technique of organizing gurus everywhere, comes in very handy when it’s time to set your chest freezer in order. Just as packing cubes make packing for vacation easier, so does dividing your frozen foods by type into smaller containers. If your chest freezer didn’t come with multiple boxes, bins, and baskets, you’ll need to supplement with those you buy yourself or save on hand already.”

Make Exercise Machines Work for You

Make the Right Choice

204 - Action

Not all Gym Equipment are created equal. Photo Credits

Going to the gym can help you a lot in terms of instilling discipline and in improving your health through physical fitness.

But as all gym-goers know the best type of exercise machines are the same machines that they most likely have almost no opportunity to use because everyone flocks to it.

Exercise and body building website Muscle and Fitness came up with great alternatives to these machines so you no longer have to make a beeline to it, wasting your precious gym time.

“No one likes waiting around for a machine at the gym. Not only is it frustrating, but it also kills your momentum: it forces you to take long breaks, which kills your fat-loss effects, slows your cardio benefits, and cools down your body (which can cause injuries). Rather than standing around for minutes just to do a certain exercise, use substitutes that target the same muscle groups, have similar intensity (if not more), and require minimal equipment. You’ll be able to get more work done at the gym, save time, keep your heart rate up, and get more results.”

Check out their list here.

Some are great, some are not helpful at all

Huffington Post Healthy Living meanwhile came up with a list of exercise machines that you should refrain from using, as their expert resource person for the article believes free weights and body weight exercises provide the maximum benefit to the gym-goer.Build Safe

“Besides parking you on your butt, most machines isolate a single muscle, meaning you’ll burn fewer calories and gain less muscle mass rep for rep. Most importantly (at least as far as medical bills are concerned), exercise machines can lead to injury. Even with their adjustable seats and pegs, finding the proper position can be close to impossible — and even then the movements just aren’t natural.”

But if you are not a gym rat, and would rather exercise at the comforts of your own home. Fitness website Ferrigno Fit, enumerated a list of exercise machines that you should not waste your money on.Electrician

“We’ve been trying to cut corners for centuries. In the 1000s, William the Conqueror tried to lose weight by staying in bed and exclusively drinking alcohol. Europeans in the 1800s thought vinegar would do the trick. Some bet on pills filled with tapeworms. Have you ever bought into an idea hoping it would solve your weight loss problems? Maybe some late night infomercial convinced you that some special machine would tone your legs or build your arms? Most of us have fallen into that trap.”

Find out what Ferrigno Fit is referring to here.

The best way though to stay fit without having to shell-out money are free exercises such as walking, running, free weights and floor exercises.

Battery Packs are No Longer Just for Small Electronic Devices.

It Can Now Power Homes

Website Business Insider reported that American Automotive and Energy Storage Company TESLA is working on a battery pack that could be used to supply power in individual residences. The website reported that this is not the first time TESLA hinted about something like this. “Musk had laid out his ambition to make something that would live in consumers’ homes, instead of their cars. ‘We are trying to figure out what would be a cool stationary (battery) pack,’ Musk said. ‘Some will be like the Model S pack: something flat, 5 inches off the wall, wall mounted, with a beautiful cover, an integrated bi-directional inverter, and plug and play.’

Read more about it here.

The Powerwall

A few months after that statement, TESLA indeed unveiled the in-home battery pack dubbed as TESLA Powerwall. Canadian website The Globe and Mail reported that this technology is coming to their country but not as a battery pack for the home. Electrical Contractors

“That’s because most solar electricity generated by Canadian homeowners’ rooftop panels is sold into the power grid through Ontario’s ‘feed-in tariff’ system. There is no incentive to save the power for personal uses, because homeowners get high prices for the electricity they deliver. Still, Ms. Verschuren said, there are other applications here where it would be useful, including providing backup power during power outages, and time-shifting so people can buy electricity at times of the day when it is cheap then use it at times when it is expensive. Some people who want to get entirely off the grid with a solar system may also want to buy the batteries, she said.”

Website Engineering.Com meantime shared that custom battery packs indeed do a lot to solve portable power problems.

“Off-the-shelf battery packs are similarly designed as simple shapes, which lower production costs, but give away much in weight and power density terms. Custom solutions allow the pack designer to maximize power density in the smallest volume with the best possible integration into the parent device.”

His body was still warm and his hands showed signs of being severely burnt. He was rushed to the University of Miami Hospital. He was pronounced deceased shortly after arriving by ambulance in the hospital’s ER department.”
